2022 YLP Senior Experience | High Point Senior Photographer

Yasmin Leonard Photography is now scheduling 2022 Seniors!

HELLO SENIORS!!!

I am beyond excited you have contacted me!  I LOVE senior sessions and love customizing each and every one for the particular senior. Throughout this blog, I'll address some commonly asked questions.

It covers all of the details including sitting fees AND the ordering session afterwards. Prints and Products are not included in the sitting fee.

What should I wear?

Dress in whatever makes you feel confident, beautiful and comfortable.  I used beautiful - and that goes for guys and girls - dress in whatever makes you feel awesome!  If that's an old pair of jeans and a white t-shirt, bring them!  If you love to "dress to impress," let's do it!  I want to document who YOU are and I'll be able to do that best when you feel great!

I don't limit how often you are allowed to change.  I personally love the variety!   Just keep in mind that changing takes away from our shooting time, so plan to change quickly!

Where will the session be?

Sessions are done within the Triad; typically within 30 minutes of High Point, NC.  We'll discuss where together though!  Think about what makes you, you!  Where do you feel most at home?  If that's the city, we'll go there!  If that's the great outdoors, we'll find a great property!  AND if you're a little of both, we can allow time during your session to go to two different locations.  If you need ideas or suggestions, I have them!  ...but first, I want you to think of what you like and we'll go from there!

May I include my extracurricular activities?

Absolutely!  Please do!  I LOVE including what makes you, you!  I've said that a few times, do you get the idea!?  I want this session to be ALL ABOUT YOU!  I want your friends and family to see these and say "That is soooo (insert your name here)."  So if you're in the band, definitely bring your instrument!  If you're a swimmer, let's go to the pool!  If you have played basketball since you were 4, by all means, let's go to the gym!  The only catch is, you're responsible for getting permission to use any school or private property.

Don't play sports?  Not in the band?  No problem!  I wasn't either!  What makes you - you - may be a ball cap, a great pair of sunglasses, or maybe going barefoot!  Don't stress about what to bring!  Sometimes less is more anyway!

When should I book?

Again, that's up to you!  Many High School seniors book in July and August, while College Seniors tend to book the month of their graduation.  If you are wanting to use your senior portraits for your senior page in the High School yearbook, check with your school to see when they are due!  ...and schedule accordingly.  After you session, you'll be invited back to the studio to view your portraits and choose your digital images and order print products.  Final images and prints are typically ready within two weeks.

If you don't need them for your yearbook, you're really free to schedule whenever you'd like!  Some seniors really love the Fall or Spring and will wait to schedule for that time of year.

Regardless of the time of year, book early! YLP dates go quickly!

Senior Sessions are booked on Monday - Thursday; with limited availability.  Weekends are reserved for weddings.

Cody and Courtney - Wallburg, NC

Cody and Courtney - Wallburg, NC

Cody and Courtney

Wallburg, NC

Cody and Courtney decided to get married at the place they spent the most time during the summer months and where Cody had proposed, at his grandmother’s house! This is where they keep their horses, bring their dog Clint to play in the pond, fish, and where they eat every Sunday evening. His grandmother fixes supper for the entire family every Sunday evening. After eating, Courtney and Cody find themselves sitting out on the porch swing watching the sun go down. There was never really any thought to have the wedding somewhere else. They wanted it to feel like home and wanted the opportunity to create more memories in one place.

There are a lot of sentimental items that make up the foundation of their wedding and decorations that were handmade from their families or borrowed. They wanted it to be authentic and real, instead of just looking that way. They also purchased a lot from local vendors. The flowers that were displayed as decorations came from either the Piedmont Triad Farmer’s Market or wild ones that were picked fresh out of the hay field. The flowers used for the bouquets were ordered online and put together by family members. The popcorn and peanuts were also from local vendors at the market.

They also wanted their wedding favors to have a little “taste”, of their lifestyle! The wedding favors needed to be something that the guests would use and not something that would just be thrown to the back of a cabinet. Strawberry jam was the lucky winner! They were also able to use an old recipe from the bride’s grandmother that was made with fresh strawberries from the local Hedgecock Strawberry Farm. Labels were placed on the jars in favor of the wedding and wrapped in cloth to give them that country feel.

During the ceremony, the unity piece was also something special to the couple. The groom is a Horseshoer and works daily with a forge and horseshoes. They saw the idea of making a brand with their initials on it and branding it into a wooden plaque to display as they became one. The couple designed the brand and the groom brought that idea to life. There are two C’s surrounding an E that represents Cody and Courtney Essick. They also made the wooden plaque with scrap wood.

"Something old something new, something borrowed something blue" also had its share of sentimental value. The bride collected her mother’s 30+ year old blue garter, borrowed her sister’s veil, wore a new bracelet, and put a “Lucky Penny” in her shoe. The “Lucky Penny” has been passed down from the groom’s family over the years and started with the first wedding in 1948. Cody’s Great Grandmother was the first bride to have put it in her shoe to wear on her wedding day. It has also been passed down to his grandparents at their wedding, his parents and will be worn in Courtney’s shoe for theirs.

Cody and Courtney are most excited and feel so blessed to be able to have and experience their wedding day on family land with so many memories that they have created there. Nothing means more to them than to have their big day celebrating with friends and family that mean the most to them, the town they were raised in and the land that has been in Cody’s family for many years! It is not every day when a young couple has the chance to say they got engaged, married, and spend every Sunday evening at the same place. It is this place that they hope to make their own one day and to continue the memories with generations to come.

Summerfield Farms Engagement Session With Fox 8

Summerfield Farms Engagement Session With Fox 8

Kerstin and Michael  -  Summerfield Farms, NC

"Good for Her" Segment for Fox 8

Recently, I did a Senior Portrait session for a young lady who was accompanied by her parents. During our conversations, I discovered that her step-dad, Chris Weaver, was the videographer for Fox 8. We also talked about my transition from being a high school Spanish teacher to a professional Wedding Photographer a few years ago. After our session, Chris asked if anyone had ever done a story on me. The High Point Enterprise did a small feature story on YLP when I first opened the studio in High Point, but I was interested in where this was going! He mentioned that Fox 8 showcases a "Good for Her" segment every Wednesday and wondered if I'd be interested! I responded, "I'm not great with words, so only if you can make me sound like I make sense!" He laughed and ensured me that he would! We'll see if he kept his promise on May 31st when it airs!

On Monday, Chris joined me at Summerfield Farms for an Engagement Session. I'm accustomed to making others feel comfortable, but I'm not going to lie, I was sooooo nervous! I reminded my sweet couple, Kerstin and Michael, that they shouldn't feel nervous! They just needed to be themselves, I'd be myself and we'd try our hardest to pretend Chris wasn't there! It didn't take long for us to relax and just enjoy the experience!

Here are a few behind the scenes photographs Chris shared on his FB page.  You can follow him here:  ChrisFox8

We did their session at Summerfield Farms, where they will be getting married this Fall!  As you can see, their love and connection was effortless to photograph!

...and the whole experience wouldn't be complete without a group selfie!

Parents and siblings are also welcome!
